Ramp Sports - The Lobstah Snowboard
The Lobstah presented by Ramp |
If you caught my last post about riding at Snowbasin you already know that it is where I tested out Ramp Sports 2012 Snowboard decks. Introducing first the Lobstah Snowboard!
About Ramp
RAMP is a new Ski and Snowboard Company that is consumer direct and web based. The old rules for buying skis and snowboards are gone. With our direct-to-you way of doing business, customers have greater access to our cutting-edge skis and snowboards, our knowledgeable equipment professionals and irresistible deals. At RAMP we work 100% with the consumer, people who share our love for the best equipment and great times on the mountains.
Product Line
We’re introducing our 2011-2012 product line as a pre-launch this season. With 13 skis and 10 snowboards, we have a full complement of rides for men, women and kids of all sizes and abilities. At RAMP we have the big advantage of starting from scratch. We have the ability to create what riders want and need without working around a big collection of outdated product. We looked at all the emerging trends and designed a complete line of skis and boards at the front edge of what’s coming. Our product lines are tight and focused. We design, create and deliver what skiers and riders want and what they’re about to want.
Unisex and Women’s Product
At RAMP we enhance performance and usability for the size and strength of each rider by developing specific flexes and characteristics for each size ski and snowboard. The old model for creating women-specific skis and snowboards was tweaking men’s equipment with more forward ramp angles and bindings. In reality these features are for skiers with less athletic ability and skill. At RAMP, we’re breaking the mold by creating skis and boards designed to fit the ability and size of the rider. Women who are athletic and strong want the same high-performance equipment men want. That being said, RAMP delivers unmatched women-specific models. A girl needs to be able to express herself!
The Lobstah
Type: Expert / Pipe / All Mtn Traditional Camber
Sidecut: 29-24.7-29mm
Sizes: 145cm, 151cm, 156cm, 160cm
There’s a lot of new stuff happening with camber, but you know that traditional camber works best for launching big air in the pipe and ripping stable, carved turns at speed. If you like to do these things at the highest level, then the Lobstah is your ride. Top pros ride this type of board when they do these things just like you. It’s a keepah!
MY Review of this Gem...
PROS
I was extremely surprised in the sheer weight of the deck. I find it to be a lighter board that can still hold up in high speeds.
I found myself getting some serious speed on this board and the tail did not squirrel at all giving me that strong sense of confidence underfoot. Stability was also a strong point when it came to hitting kickers and natural lips.
The pop on this board is fantastic. Landing wise, solid as a rock. The board felt great landing big hitters even though my form was not perfect. I took this baby in the pipe and even though I am no stud in there, I felt very comfortable on the Lobstah, catching nice air.
Cosmetically, it looks great and is a very different/happy feel to the graphic. It brings back the joy of riding and takes the seriousness out of it. I can almost guarantee you will be saying "Lobstah!" constantly while on mountain! Awesome name!
CONS
Even though, I did feel like it was a great cruiser, it did not hold up well with hard stops/turns. My edge was never really established which might have been due to the spring snow.
I would have liked a wider stance, which I think could easily be fixed by getting a bigger board. (I was on a 152cm)
The graphic is DIFFERENT. You are definitely either going to love it or hate it. Check above to see how I felt.
OVERALL
The Lobstah is a solid board that is highly recommended for those hang time junkies and high speed crazies. You should check it out, and maybe even demo one of them. You will not be disappointed! Next post will be a review on Ramp's Tumbleweed! Get stoked!
