Rock Climbing Moab, Utah 6.6.11
These were as tall as skyscrapers, maybe bigger |
After attending the Teva Mountain Games we felt like that we needed a break from it all and before coming back to Salt Lake City we were going to climb in Moab, Utah.
What a mistake that was...
We got in late in the night and ate at one of the few restaurants there that had a pizza buffet. It was actually pretty good, too, for a buffet. Anyway, moving on, the next day we ventured to climb. Climbing in Moab is like climbing inside a hot furnace. When we got to "Wall Street" (a crag there) the sun had not beaten down the rock too bad yet.
About 2 hours later...
I burned my hands on the rock. My hands did not just feel like they were hot but they actually burned. I feel like another 5 degrees and my hands would have combusted into flames. Seriously, though, the temperature topped out at 98 degrees that day. I had heard that Moab gets hot but THAT was just mis-er-able. We did one climb each and said screw it. We actually jumped in the river before we got back in the car, which was the opposite of the rock and was frigidly cold. It was very refreshing though. Anyway, here are a few pictures from the quick trip. It is a beautiful place.
Maybe next time Moab. Next time, in December and not during the summer.
