Guidebook: Exit 38 Rock Climbing Guide by Garth Bruce

Exit 38 is a popular sport climbing area 30-45 minutes (depending on traffic) east of Seattle.  Many locals flock here because of the easy access and great climbs.

Climbing here...
The climbs here are just plain fun.  I do not know what kind of rock it is but it has tons of overhangs, crimps, and jugs.  Tough short routes and easier long ones.  All are fun.  I think the difficulty of the climbs are fairly consistent with the rest of the country so you will not feel up or down (in skill) when climbing here.

Amenities...
Everything you could ever want is in Seattle.  Another good think to know about Seattle is that REI's headquarters is based here.  They have a 2-story store that literally has EVERYTHING outdoors you will ever need.
The Guidebook...
I think the guidebook listed for this area is superb with great colored pictures and easy-to-find areas.  Also, for new climbers, has a nice beginning describing rating systems and the need to know information of being a climber.

Camping...
Camping apparently is doable in the area but it is limited and generally only have a September through May period to do it.

General Area...
So damn beautiful!  The parking lot is deceivingly normal (kidding) but as soon as you get one foot on trail your world shifts to the past.  Lots of trees all around you, moss hanging down from just about everything, cascading waterfalls, and unfortunately less than normal mosquitoes.  Fortunately, the place is too amazing to even notice the bites.  I really love it in Washington, problem is there is way too much stuff to stare at to accomplish what you are there to do, climb.

Weather...
Expect wet, humid air.  It was nicely shaded though so I would definitely bring a light windbreaker when in the area.  It can get windy and cold at night while walking back as well.

Recommendation...
When first looking up this area I saw it as a place to spend the day, no more than that.  After spending time there, I would love to climb here more often.  It is an awesome spot to climb and just hang out.  If you are visiting Seattle or plan on visiting Leavenworth I would definitely make a stop at Exit 38.
