My hometown of Brecksville, Ohio offers what a weekend warrior could have some fun on while playing around in the Cleveland Metroparks.
(10 mins) Approach...
When heading east take Route 82 (aka Royalton Rd) past the two shopping centers. There should be a Heinen's on the left and a Giant Eagle on the left. The entrance to the park (on the right) will be a mere 50 yards from those shopping plaza entrances. Enter there and park at the first parking lot right off the road. There will be a hiking path to your right. Follow that until you get to a gazebo and go left. Stay on the path until you come to a pair of tight skinny trees on the left(I know it sounds generic but you will know when you see it) Jump the little fence and the boulders will be down in the gully right on Chippewa Creek.
Amenities...
Everything is there in Brecksville, at reasonable, normal prices. I assume that you will not need to stock up on things, since, usually only locals come here to climb.
Climbing here...
It has many overhangs and power moves. You need to be creative to make the routes worthwhile but for a place where I was only 20 minutes from on bike, I had fun. Expect to have a traverse or difficult sit starts to make the problems more difficult. There are only a few boulders here (6 maybe?) which obviously limits the variety. The ratings here, in my opinion, can go from a V3 to a possible V7-8. It depends what routes you take.
The Guidebook...
Is there even a guidebook for this area? If there is please comment in the comment box below.
My opinion on general area...
I enjoyed growing up in Brecksville for roughly 22 years. Lots of beautiful scenery, fun hikes, decent bouldering, and quality/real Italian food.
Camping...
I do not know about camping in the Metroparks area. I believe that it is prohibited in the general vicinity of the boulders.
Weather...
It's Ohio. Nice, cool summers. The best falls. Horrible lake effect winters. Spring can get a little buggy.
Recommendation...
If you are passing through and want an area to check out as a nice half day of bouldering, I would check it out. It is nothing to write home about but for locals its what we got.
